Add a brilliant splash of color and high-energy movement to your aquarium with the striking Yellow Tux Endlers Livebearer (Poecilia wingei). Highly sought after by both nano tank hobbyists and seasoned aquarists, this stunning variety showcases an eye-catching contrast between a brilliant, metallic neon yellow body and a dark, iridescent black or platinum "tuxedo" half-band running along its flank. Because they are selectively bred for maximum coloration and hardiness, our Yellow Tuxedo Endlers bring unmatched visual dynamics to any aquascaped setup.
Endler’s Livebearers are native to the warm, coastal lagoons of northeastern Venezuela, specifically the Campoma Lagoon and Cumana regions. While wild populations inhabit distinct freshwater and brackish environments, the Yellow Tux Endlers available in the hobby today are premium captive-bred strains. These captive-raised fish are exceptionally adaptable, robust, and significantly easier to acclimate to home aquarium conditions than wild imports.
Yellow Tuxedo Endlers are legendary for their resilience, making them an excellent choice for beginners and expert breeders alike. They are highly adaptable to various municipal tap water profiles but thrive best in slightly hard, alkaline conditions.
Water Temperature: 72°F – 82°F (22°C – 28°C)
pH Range: 7.0 – 8.5
Water Hardness: 10 – 25 dGH
Due to their diminutive size, Yellow Tux Endlers are among the best fish for nano tanks. A minimum tank size of 5 gallons is acceptable for a small bachelor group of males, but a 10-gallon aquarium or larger is highly recommended for a thriving mixed-sex colony.
To replicate their natural environment, provide a heavily planted aquarium utilizing live aquatic plants such as Java Fern, Anubias, Hornwort, and floating flora. Densely planted areas offer crucial hiding spaces for newborn fry and help manage nitrate levels. These active fish thrive with a gentle to moderate water flow, high-quality filtration, and a stable water parameter profile.
Feeding Yellow Tux Endlers is incredibly simple, as they are opportunistic, enthusiastic omnivores. In the aquarium, they should be fed a varied diet consisting of premium crushed tropical fish flakes, micro pellets, and high-protein freeze-dried or live foods like baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and cyclops. They also possess a natural appetite for biofilm and nuisance algae, and will happily spend their day picking at algae growing on live plants and hardscapes, helping keep your nano tank clean.
Yellow Tuxedo Endlers are exceptionally peaceful community fish that spend their time in the upper and middle water columns. Because adult males reach a maximum size of only 1 inch (with females slightly larger at 1.8 inches), they must only be housed with non-aggressive, similarly sized tank mates. Ideal tank companions include small rasboras, neon tetras, corydoras catfish, kuhli loaches, and peaceful invertebrates such as Cherry Shrimp, Amano Shrimp, and mystery snails. Avoid housing them with large, predatory, or aggressive fish species like cichlids or large barbs that could easily mistake these colorful nano fish for food.
If you are looking to experience breeding livebearing fish, Endlers are the perfect choice. Like guppies, Yellow Tux Endlers breed readily and prolifically in the home aquarium without requiring specialized intervention. For a successful breeding colony, maintain a ratio of two or three females to every one male to distribute breeding pressure evenly. Females give birth to live, free-swimming fry every 23 to 28 days. To maximize fry survival rates, ensure the aquarium features dense mats of moss or fine-leaved floating plants, or utilize a separate breeding tank to protect the vulnerable young from adult fish.
